Bamberg's railway station is also a stop on the ICE line between Munich and Berlin, which means that both cities can be reached without changing trains. Nuremberg, Bavaria's second largest city, is approximately 45 minutes away by S-Bahn, and its Nuremberg's international airport provides flights to destinations worldwide.

Using their semester ticket, students can travel throughout the city and Bamberg’s administrative district by bus and regional train. Additionally, the VGN Nuremberg network (which includes Bamberg) provides the opportunity to use one ticket to travel extensively throughout the Franconian region; from Zapfendorf to Neumarkt i. d. Oberpfalz, or from Bayreuth to Rothenburg o. d. Tauber, and all stops in between.
