Gastvortrag von Prof. Dr. Joan Ramon Resina
Bamberger Vortr?ge zu Iberian Studies
The Department of Romance Languages at the University of Bamberg is creating an Iberian Studies Research Group. Prof. Joan Ramon Resina (Stanford University) was invited to present his scientifical point of view: "Los Estudios Ibéricos y la devaluación disciplinar de la Literatura". (November 29, 2012)
Citizen of the United States born in Barcelona in 1956. Ph.D. in Comparative Literature by U.C. Berkeley and Doctor in English Philology by the University of Barcelona. He has taught in several universities in the United States and Europe. Currently being a member of the Department of Comparative Literature and the Department of Iberian and Latin American Cultures at Stanford University, he is specializes in the European novel, cultural theory, Spanish and Catalan literature and film, and urban culture.
Recently the term Iberian Studies has gained academic currency, but its semantic scope still fluctuates. For some it is a established way of combining the official cultures of two states, Portugal and Spain; yet for others the term opens up disciplinary space, including Catalan, Galician, Basque, and other languages or dialects, altering established routines. A relational approach to Iberian Studies shatters the state’s epistemological frame and complexities the field through the emergence of lines of inquiry and bodies of knowledge hitherto written off as
irrelevant.
Professor Resina has started to mine the rich lodes of meaning beyond the literarily (and linguistically) confined conception of the field ?Iberian Studies`. The ?Modern view` now expands the traditional disciplinary interests beyond literature and film to include media studies, architecture, urbanism, photography, and performance.
