General Questions

When does the programme start?

The MA EAS (regular) starts both in the winter and summer semester.

The MA EAS (Joint Programme) starts only in the winter semester.

What are the prerequisites to apply for the programme?

First steps: housing, finances and insurance

Having a permanent German address is the first and most important step for your enrolment. Make sure to search for permanent accommodation as soon as you have received your admission letter.

Housing has become much more expensive in and around Bamberg!  Average flatshare prices now start at 350� but are often much higher. In addition, the student dormitories are at their limits with minimum waiting times of one if not two semesters.

Visa

Visa applications might take very long and can delay a student's successful start of the programme. Start the process as early as possible and check with the German Embassy in your country how long it takes.
In certain cases, the process will take longer than one semester, so you need to plan your stay in Bamberg in advance. If you encounter any visa issues, you need to inform the coordinators immediately. Please note that the coordinators cannot interfere with embassy procedures. Moreover, students waiting for visa often encounter problems with housing, etc.

Visa regulations for Germany

To find information on the current visa regulations for Germany, check the website of the Federal Foreign Office ("Ausw?rtiges Amt"). Make sure you apply for the correct visa since changing the visa is not possible and you will have to return to your home country to apply for the correct visa again. Please note that the university cannot influence any of these regulations or interfere with visa procedures.

Blocked account

To obtain a German visa, applicants from certain countries are required to open a blocked bank account ("Sperrkonto"). The website fo the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides information on the process.
For details like the exact amount of a blocked account you can check the finances section of their website. Please always check your visa specifications!

Knowledge of German

Even though you won't need any German skills to follow the academic programme of the MA EAS, be aware that legal and administrative documents are mostly in German (German is the only legally binding language in Germany).
