Upon graduation from the teacher training programme or after completion of the First State Examination, you have various options for further professional development:
Taking up Practical Teacher Training
After completing the academic teacher training programme with the First State Examination, the transition towards practical teacher training and active school service commences. Specific requirements apply to graduates of different types of school.
Graduates with a state examination or bachelor’s degree have the option to take up a master’s degree programme, provided they meet the relevant admission requirements. These programmes open the door to further academic studies (doctoral qualification) and individual specialisations.
Under certain conditions, graduates of the teacher training programme can qualify for admission to a doctoral programme and have the opportunity to write an academic dissertation. Depending on the specialist subject, the doctorate opens up perspectives for a career in higher education, for example in research and teaching.
Employment Outside the Teaching Profession
Teacher training programmes and teaching-relevant qualifications not only qualify students for employment in the teaching profession, but also enable them to pursue careers outside the school sector. There is potential for employment in the non-school sector both in the public service and in private enterprises.
