What teachers understand by career success: New publication by Prof. Dr. Andresen and colleagues

Too little is known about what teachers understand by a "successful career", although this knowledge would enable schools and educational authorities to support the development of teachers and reduce teacher turnover. The authors show that teachers from the DACH region differ from other professionals (health and social workers; computer scientists) in several dimensions of career success. A key factor for many teachers is the achievement of a work-life balance, which can be directly addressed in schools, whereas financial success, which can hardly be influenced at school level, is of little importance to them. At the same time, teachers are not fundamentally different from people in other professions, which is why educational research could benefit more from career-related research in other professional fields.
