On May 5, 2014, the poet George Ellenbogen came to Bamberg for a reading.
To an audience of students, staff members and guests from outside the university, George Ellenbogen and Edith Hallberg first read a selection from Teaching Arabs, Writing Self(2013), the final book by the Arab American author and scholar Evelyn Shakir (1938-2010), Ellenbogen's late life partner. Ellenbogen then read from his poetry and his own memoir, A Stone in My Shoe: In Search of Neighbourhood (2013), before answering questions about writing, teaching and life as a traveling author moving between different countries, cultures and genres.
